Throughout my childhood I was constantly roaming along the shores of Lake Superior and inland, up and down creeks and rivers, hunting, fishing, and camping with my friends. While creek fishing, I often brought out my small paint box at high noon when the trout weren't biting to record my surrounds. I did this with no knowledge of the Group of Seven or the Impressionists. I simply enjoyed my space and my time with the brush. My buddies never bugged me about it (for which I was always grateful) and I was proud to bring these little paintings in landscape home to show my mom along with my fish. This encouragement amongst others like Barb Coslett and Dave and Mary Morris, remains with me as an integral force for my work to this day!
